Jaegeun Lee a farmer who runs a strawberry farm in Wanju, North Jeolla Province, used to live in the city. After years of urban living, he began dreaming of returning to farming. So he began preparing by taking agriculture classes and searching for regions to settle. Four years later, he is now realizing his dream of transitioning to a professional farmer in Wanju. He likens his personal transformation to that of strawberries, a summer berry that has gained popularity as a winter produce in Korea.

Hyuk Lee, who runs a peach orchard in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, moved back home to Chungju earlier than planned due to concerns for his father's health. Now, he has been taking his orchard for about six years. After years of trial and error, Lee has become an expert who can pass on his farming techniques to novice farmers. We spoke to him about his dream of creating a community-based agricultural company through TYM tractors.

She has been living off the land for four years, and despite her lack of experience, she is dedicated to her environmentally friendly onion farm. We visited her recently for a short interview.

The Korean government recently announced an ambitious five-year master plan to nurture 30,000 young farmers by 2027 as part of a long-term plan to replenish the aging agricultural population. Young farmers, defined by the government as full-time farmers under the age of 40, have typically faced challenges such as initial investment costs, adequate training, and securing farmland. By expanding programs targeting younger, emerging farmers and integrating advanced technologies, the government is betting on revitalizing a long-declining sector. Here is a look at some of the enhanced benefits and new programs for young farmers in Korea.

We met with Kwak Dong-ju, a young farmer who received a donated TYM tractor in 2020. We met in a suburb of Daegu, still chilly after a recent cold snap. Formerly a teacher in the city, Kwak decided that he needed a change. So he packed his bags and moved away to the countryside. It’s a daydream that many have; to escape from their frenetic urban lifestyles to live among nature. Kwak fulfilled that dream to start a new life as “Kwak Dong-ju the Farmer.” We spoke with the young farmer to find out what dreams he has now.
